Oh, by the way, did I mention I have a Thing-O-Matic on order? 3D printing here I come!

Throughout the day I am a heavy user of my Chrome browser (version 5). I open, search, flip, close, rotate my tabs on a regular basis and I notice after doing this with the browser for a couple of days (without closing the browser) webpages start to slow done and stop working or even crashing. This is noticeable with webpages that utilize a lot of AJAX such Gmail, Google Calendar or Google Reader.

The only solution I find that works when webpages begin to crash is to close down the browser and re-start it. It seems to be a pain and something Google needs to address.

One theory I have is Chrome has an interesting feature that allows you to re-open a recently closed tab. Once re-opened all the history for that tab remains so you can go back or forth if necessary.

Could this collection of history be adding up and causing the browser to slow down and eventually crash?

Has anyone else experienced this with their Chrome browser?

Edmonton Fashion Week

Posted by admin under Fun, General

Tonight for the first time I am experiencing a fashion show. It is fashion week at Edmonton and my wife was really interested in going.

Having never attended a fashion show before, I thought what the hell. Why not. Fashion is a main stream media that adds billions to the world economy. There is an element of artistic skills, understanding of materials and the ability to translate a vision into something tangable.

When I started New Media Fun, my vision was to explore any type of media. And I suppose fashion fits in nicely.

Edmonton fashion week started today (sept. 18) and goes on until next weekend. If you are in the area you should check it out.

Attached are some photos I took from the iPhone. Some might be a bit shaky.

Every day I find new reasons why I love the open source community so much. Yesterday, I stumbled upon Makerbot.com, a small company that has created an open source hardware device that will print out 3D images with the equivalent of using a hot glue gun. The device is called Cupcake CNC. Check out the Google talk video, it is really neat to think of what the possibilities could be with this device.

Now, all I have to do is save $1000.

This afternoon I attended a presentation to show off a telepresence system to let NorQuest college staff communicate between campus’.

The set up is a pc, high def video camera, LCD TV and light. The system delivers the video over alberta’s supernet network at 6 mbps!

The draw back is the cost. To set up to rooms on the basic system is close to $65,000! That doesn’t include setting up the rooms, audio design and designing the rooms to look the same on both sides.

Over all a really neat technology with a lot of potential. Check out the photos below:

Well it has been close to 2 years since I stopped blogging on my old website; My Retirement Project dot com. The site worked great and it was a fantastic way to learn the blogging eco-system.

This time will be very different for me. Instead of a blogging in a world of link baiting, paid revues and trying to make a money through blogging. I am making a complete change in my blogging practices. New Media Fun is primarily for my professional development in multimedia, web design and technology. It exists primarily as a method to communicate my ideas, passions and fun stuff I come across in a professional or personal capacity.

So strap in, subscribe to the RSS feed and come back regularly. It should be fun. ;)
